Ellen Pedersen

Ellen Pedersen has been riding and caring for horses for fifteen years. Her involvement in the horse world reluctantly began when her daughter, Jessica, declared that she wanted a riding lesson for her 6th birthday. Ellen and Jessica quickly understood how little they knew about horses when they arrived at the barn for the first time.

Within three years Ellen owned two horses and a pony, was a “professional” horseshow mom, and had started riding herself. The horse she rode was Simon, a fourteen hundred pound, seventeen-hand gentle giant of an Irish Sport Horse.

Simon was a smart and sassy horse, full of swagger and pride. When he passed, he left a big hole in the lives of those who loved him, inspiring Ellen to share his story and character with young readers. Ellen lives in Medfield, MA, a thriving horse community outside of Boston, with her husband Tom and their cat Esmeralda. She works as an executive at a marketing agency and spends most of her spare time at the barn.
